CSL Bibliography Samples

When viewed in Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome or Internet Explorer, this page (if you have enabled Javascript) will display a set of example bibliographies, illustrating some of the capabilities of the citeproc-js citation formatter, an implementation of the CSL 1.0 citation style language specification. A few comments on the bibliography listings below:

These are generated from a single set of database entries supplied to the processor as a JSON object; the formatting you see is entirely controlled by style code fed to the CSL processor inside your browser.
Most of the delay in loading the page is due to the loading of citation data and the instantiation of the processor for several separate styles. These operations are performed once per cite and per style respectively; when deployed in a word processor or other editing environment, the rendering operations themselves should be reasonably fast.
The cites in the running text below are a generated by a proof-of-concept Bluebook style. The style is written in standard CSL 1.0. Citation collapsing for parallel cites is done by analyzing content on the fly during rendering; no exceptional hints in the input data are required.
As a techie gloss, the XML parsing engine differs according to the browser with which the page is called. When viewed in Internet Explorer, Safari or Google Chrome, the CSL style code is read using the DOM. For server-side use and in the Firefox browser, the processor uses the E4X parsing engine instead, which is available natively in the Rhino, Spidermonkey and Tracemonkey javascript implementations.)
